"Obama expects support for more Afghanistan troops"
"President Barack Obama expects Americans to support more U.S. troops in Afghanistan once they understand the perils of losing, and he is preparing to make his case to the nation next week. Eight years after the Sept. 11 attacks led the U.S. into Afghanistan, Obama said it is still in America's vital national interest to "dismantle and destroy" al-Qaida terrorists and extremist allies. "I intend to finish the job," he said.
Correct decision. But Obama "expects" Americans to support it? I'm afraid it doesn't quite work like that Mr. Obama. You will have to get out there and actually sell this to the American people. You will have to engage in the hard work of explaining why this is the right decision and not just passively announce it - you can't vote present. Presidents don't get to decide important policies and then expect everyone to fall in line - especially in your case your left-wing base. Look, we realize that this is a policy that you'd rather not be dealing with in the first place. But it now becomes your job to persuade the public of its correctness. Else it will fail. It's that simple.
